I’m Erik, or escalatedquickly, a curious person trapped in an interesting world, doomed to never learn everything that I wish to learn. I’ve been hacking since about 2010, and tinkering with computers and technology since the mid 90s.
I have an affinity for the odd, the abstract, and the nitty-gritty. In particular, metamorphic malware, formal languages and semantics, low-level programming, category theory, linguistics and most recently mainframes are all things that my mind is drawn to. Over the years, I’ve specialized in analyzing malware and hacking mainframes, and I’m (sort of) working on Ph.D. focusing on the former.
I also hold strong opinions on many things, and opinions expressed here are my own. Human and workers rights are important to me, as is open source, free information sharing, and other similarly UNIX-hackery values.
What is this place?
This is where I brain dump. Here you will find blog posts about subjects I’m trying to learn and interesting problems I’ve encountered, as well as links to some of my projects and my research. With a bit of luck, there may actually be some useful info here and there. Blog posts, projects and research papers will mostly focus on the topics mentioned above, or at least be similar or adjacent to them.
